Personalised Cycle Training

Whether you've not ridden for years, never learned at all or just want to ride more confidently - We can help!

Cycling keeps you healthy, gives independence and freedom, is cheap and efficient, is suitable and, most importantly, is fun.

Who is it for?

Cycle training can be provided to cater for all abilities – whether you are a new cyclist, already cycle but wish to improve the safety and enjoyment of the journey to work or college, or you want to cycle with your family.

Road safety training is one of the most effective ways of promoting cycling. Training is not intended to impose restrictions on behaviour, but to increase skill and confidence

What does it involve?

All training is based on the National Standards for Cycle Training. The actual content of the course, and the level you reach, will depend on your aims for the training and your level at the start of the course. A tutor will be assigned to you, and training is normally delivered one-to-one.

All training will begin off-road. Beginners will learn how to balance, control a bike and start and stop safely, while those who already ride will have the chance to develop more advanced control skills.

The next stage of training will take place on roads and in realistic conditions. If you wish to make specific journeys, training will, wherever possible, take you on the roads you will use.

All training will be in your local area, as agreed by you and your tutor.

Assertive road positioning and behaviour is the key to safe cycling. Our training will teach you to use as much road space as you need to travel safely and effectively.

A full list of the milestones and outcomes is available on our National Standards page.

What do I need?

To cycle, all you really need is a bike. We will help and advise if you wish to improve your cycling equipment, and discuss personal protective equipment. You will need to wear clothing appropriate to the weather conditions.

For beginners who do not have a bike, one can be loaned for the duration of the training session.

When does training take place and how much does it cost?

You can decide when training will take place, and how long each session will be. Training costs £20 / hour.
