Mark was first with 77% of the votes, Les was second with 1% more of the votes than Melinda, who was third. What percentage of the votes did Les and Melinda get?

If Mark got 77% of the votes then the others shared 23%  ( 100% - 77%)

If Les got 1% more than Melinda take the 1% away from 23% = 22%. 

Share equally so that each gets half of 22% = 11%

Then give Les his 1% back

Answers  Les got 12%       Melinda got 11%
