Sample Teaching Units

The new National Curriculum for teaching from September 2008 is a marvellous opportunity to refresh, through out the old, and bring in new schemes at KS3. You do not need to bring in whole scale change to KS3, but you should be looking at your Y7 SOW meeting the new POS. The old SNS Sample Teaching Units have by now been widely adopted then adapted, but some of them are six years old now. It is worth remembering that within the Sample Teaching Units ther remain some good examples of PEDAGOGY follow this link for National Strategy STU (DfES Site).(1)

Those in italics are new courses – I haven’t had details of them yet from the DfES

All courses are for one day only. Where two dates are shown, these are simply opportunities for schools to attend either day. The venue for all of the courses above will be Saltwells EDC

The focus of the National Strategy is on teaching and learning, rather than IT technical issues. Individualised, supportive, specific training is also offered to schools, either during the day or as twi-lights. These cover the STU’s not listed above, and issues such as moderation, curriculum mapping, reviewing departmental action plans, supporting new and non-specialist staff, team – teaching, department health-checks, planning, observations. These dates are agreed mutually.
