How to access the Pathe materials
Go to www.britishpathe.com from a computer on the school network. The web site automatically detects that your school is eligible to use the archives at no cost.
Key in your keyword(s) to search for clips.
Click on the Go button.
The results of the search are displayed. Scroll down to find the clip of your choice (if necessary).
Click on the down arrow in the SELECT A RESOLUTION box. Select the resolution you want, up to 512 Kb/second (presentation option).
Click on the Add to Basket button.
Select OK to close this menu box. The item you have chosen has been added to your basket. You can find and add more clips to your basket if you wish.
Downloading resources
From the top of the page, select Basket from the menu bar. You will see a list of the clips in your basket. If you have made a mistake or duplicated a choice you can remove it at this stage.
Check three things:
· You have received a discount for the full cost of the clips
· West Midlands is named in the discount section
· The total is £0.00
In the ‘select country of residence’ box, select the down arrow and then United Kingdom
Select option 2 – Proceed

Fill in your customer details
Select the Yes option from “I have read & understood the British Pathe Terms and Conditions”
Click on Proceed
Select OK from the “Are you sure?” box
In the middle of your screen you should get a message like this:

In the middle of your screen you should get a message like this:

to start downloading
Select Save from the File Download box. Enter the name and location you want in the Save As box.
The file should take less than a minute or two to download over a broadband connection. Whilst it is doing so you should see this box.
When the download is finished you can close all the British Pathe boxes and leave the site. The files you have downloaded can then be viewed and edited from your computer.
