| STOMP was a one-day event for all 11-18 year olds who are interested in standing up,
telling people what they think and making a difference. It took place on Friday 17th February 2006 from 10am - 4pm at Dudley College, (Broadway Campus). |

| STOMP will help you communicate with and represent young people's views; learn how to campaign, and how to get funding to make things happen. Find out how to get involved in setting up your own projects and activities, join the Youth Council or stand for election to the UK Youth Parliament. | ||||

Are you aged 11-18? Enthusiastic? Motivated? The chance to meet new people and make new friends? If so, follow the twelve steps below to become a ‘Member of the Youth Parliament’ (MYP). |

|
Twelve steps to becoming a ‘Member of Youth Parliament’ for Dudley… |
||||
| 1. Fill in a registration form (available through schools, youth centres and libraries) to get your name on the participants list for STOMP. | ||||
| 2. STOMP your way along to Dudley College on Friday 17th February 2006 and be ready for kick-off at 10am! | ||||
| 3. Take part in workshops, which will develop your communication skills, and help you plan projects, speak in public, run a campaign, and make people stand up and listen to what you have to say. | ||||
| 4. After lunch (yum, yum) attend a workshop all about the United Kingdom Youth Parliament (UKYP) and find out what it involves, the amazing opportunities on offer and what commitment you need to give to represent your fellow young people of Dudley borough. | ||||
| 5. If you decide the UKYP is for you….. then fill out a candidate statement outlining why you want to be a member of the UKYP, what skills and attributes you could bring to the job and what you would hope to achieve for the young people of Dudley. | ||||
| 6. Read out your statement to the other participants at STOMP. | ||||
| 7. Everyone at STOMP will have one vote to decide who should go forward as a candidate in the borough-wide elections. | ||||
| 8. The top ten candidates will have their statements distributed to all secondary and special schools, and colleges in Dudley borough, and voting will take place on Friday 3rd March. | ||||
| 9. Votes will be counted…… | ||||
| 10. The ten candidates will be invited to Dudley Council House on Friday 10th March to hear the results of the UKYP Dudley Elections 2006 | ||||
| 11. The two young people with the most votes will become ‘Members of Youth Parliament’ for Dudley, and those in 3rd and 4th position will become deputies. | ||||
| 12. MYP’s and deputies will attend a regional residential weekend on 17th – 19th March to meet MYP’s from other areas in the West Midlands, and to launch their year in office! | ||||
